Le Ali del Frassino
A Decade of Success in Biodiversity Protection
Over the past ten years, Le Ali del Frassino Resort has demonstrated exemplary commitment to environmental protection, with a series of initiatives that place biodiversity at the heart of its philosophy. The achievement of the prestigious Biodiversity Friends certification is tangible proof of this virtuous path. Every action has been aimed at combining sustainable production with the preservation of natural heritage, striking a perfect balance between tourism and conservation.
One of the most notable initiatives was the creation of an organic vineyard in 2019. Following the ancient method of "married" vineyards, where grapevines grow alongside trees such as mulberries and field maples, the project has not only enhanced the quality of the wine L'Ontano but also created an ideal habitat for bird species typical of agricultural areas, promoting local biodiversity.
That same year, the Resort planted 400 native trees to restore and strengthen the ecosystem. These new trees complement the five majestic century-old trees that line the lake, symbolizing a deep connection between past and present, between humanity and nature.
Another significant intervention was the sowing of a field of spelt with cornflowers and poppies, created solely to enrich the natural value of the area. This colorful field serves as a reserve for rare plant species and provides a crucial habitat for insects and small animals.
The architecture of Le Ali del Frassino Resort has also embraced the green philosophy: many buildings are equipped with sedum or green roofs, a solution that reduces the consumption of resources like water and provides shelter and sustenance for various insects.
The installation of bat boxes is another measure adopted to maintain the balance of the local ecosystem. Bats are valuable allies in natural pest control, helping reduce pesticide use and promoting the health of crops. The boxes, strategically placed, offer a safe refuge for these nocturnal species, encouraging their presence and reinforcing biodiversity.
At the heart of this natural oasis lies Lake Frassino, an area recognized as a Site of Community Interest by the Ministry of the Environment. With over 160 bird species, including at least 40 nesting species, this reserve is essential for the protection of wildlife, providing crucial shelter for diving ducks during the colder months.
Finally, Lake Frassino is not only a natural treasure but also a historical one. Added in 2012 to the UNESCO World Heritage list for its prehistoric pile-dwelling settlements, underwater explorations have uncovered archaeological artifacts of great significance, a testimony to human presence dating back over 5,000 years. These artifacts are now preserved in the Natural History Museum of Verona.
In this way, Le Ali del Frassino Resort stands as a virtuous example of how it is possible to preserve the past and protect the future in perfect harmony between humanity and nature.
